Apo-Amoxi is a penicillin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections.

Apo-Amoxi also is used sometimes to prevent anthrax infection after exposure and to treat anthrax infection of the skin and chlamydia infections during pregnancy. Talk to your doctor about the possible risks of using this medication for your condition.

Before taking Apo-Amoxi

• tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to amoxicillin, penicillin, cephalosporins, or any other medications.
• tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking. Be sure to mention any of the following: chloramphenicol (Chlormycetin), other antibiotics, and probenecid (Benemid). Your doctor may need to change the doses of your medications or monitor you carefully for side effects.
• tell your doctor if you have or have ever had kidney disease, allergies, asthma, hay fever, hives, or phenylketonuria.
• tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking amoxicillin, call your doctor.

Directions

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine may be taken on an empty stomach or with food.

Store this medicine at room temperature, away from heat and light.

To clear up your infection completly, continue taking this medicine for the full course of treatment even if you feel better in a few days. Do not miss any doses.

If you miss dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Side Effects

Apo-Amoxi may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

• upset stomach
• vomiting
• diarrhea

Some side effects can be serious. The following symptoms are uncommon, but if you experience any of them, call your doctor immediately:

• severe skin rash
• hives
• seizures
• yellowing of the skin or eyes
• unusual bleeding or bruising
• pale skin
• excessive tiredness
• lack of energy

Apo-Amoxi may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication.

Overdosage

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
